Full dental implants have become increasingly popular nowadays as more and more New Zealanders look for the best specialists in Onehunga, Auckland to help them achieve the perfect teeth.

Titanium dental implants involve a screw being planted in your jaw bone to support a replacement tooth. The planted screw acts like the root of a natural tooth. Implants can also be used to support fixed bridges or dentures. A local anaesthetic will be used for this procedure and you can also discuss additional sedation with your surgeon if you feel you need it.

Implant treatment has two different stages. The first, when the implant is placed in the jaw, will typically take place about 6 – 8 weeks after an extraction has been carried out. This time allows the tooth socket to be verified and completely clear of infection or inflammation.

The second stage is approximately 8 weeks later when the gum is opened and an abutment is fixed to the implant. Once the abutment is placed, the gum tissue is then closed around, but not over, the abutment. Afterwards, the gums must heal for one or two weeks before impressions are made of the mouth and remaining teeth in order to recreate the perfect fake teeth implants. These impressions are the key to making a realistic-looking artificial tooth.
